Cecilia Sun is a Senior Lecturer at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Western Australia (UWA), where she joined in 2016. She holds dual doctoral degrees in piano performance (Eastman School of Music) and historical musicology (University of California, Los Angeles). Her research bridges performance practice, historical musicology, and experimental music from the 1960s onward, focusing on how music manifests in live performance contexts. Notable projects include interdisciplinary collaborations like the pastiche opera Love and Lockdown (2021) and critical analyses of works such as Schubert’s Winterreise.
Her expertise spans experimental music, gender studies, and piano performance. She has taught at the University of Sydney and University of California, Irvine, and actively contributes to music education through peer-reviewed articles like Teaching Tertiary Music in the #MeToo Era (2020), addressing ethical and gender dynamics in academia. Sun’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and gender equality.
Awarded the UWA Student Guild’s Students’ Choice Awards (2019), her teaching and research reflect a commitment to innovative pedagogy.
