Dr. Alisa Bernhard is an Associate Lecturer (Musicology) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, since 2024. She specializes in musicology, phenomenology of performance, and interdisciplinary studies between music and dance.

Her research explores the embodied, temporal nature of musical experience, influenced by philosophers like Vladimir Jankélévitch and Jean-Paul Sartre. She examines how perception, imagination, and physicality mediate music’s existence and its relationship to silence and 'the beyond.'
Recent publications include Seismograms of a musical work: Freedom and constriction in piano performance (2021), analyzing how performers negotiate structural constraints and artistic freedom through tempo fluctuations.
