Cecilia Stenbom

Cecilia Stenbom is an award-winning artist and filmmaker affiliated with Northumbria University, focusing on interdisciplinary practices between experimental film, documentary, and narrative fiction. Her work explores the intersection of moving image with real-world social structures, institutional dynamics, and everyday behaviors. She holds a PhD in Art (2019) and has received funding from Arts Council England and Newcastle University's Institute for Creative Arts Practice (NICAP).

Her research investigates themes such as unspoken social protocols, institutional architectures, and the transformation of reality into narrative forms. Notable works include InterPlay (2021-ongoing), Diem (2019), Rules of Engagement (2018), and Parallel (2016). These projects have been exhibited internationally, including at the Innsbruck International Contemporary Biennial of the Arts and Tyneside Cinema.

Cecilia actively supervises practice-led PhD students exploring interdisciplinary approaches in moving image art and experimental film methodologies. She has presented her work at venues like the Workplace Foundation and Chapter Arts, and contributed to academic journals such as Sightlines Journal and Screenworks.
