Trevor Mowchun is Associate Professor and Director of the Film and Media Studies Program at the University of Florida. Holding a Ph.D. in Humanities from Concordia University (2019), he works as both a film scholar and experimental filmmaker.
His research bridges film theory and practice, exploring metaphysics in cinema, avant-garde techniques, and narrative experimentation. Recent work examines how film renews philosophical inquiry through moving images, challenging divisions between narrative and experimental forms.
Mowchun's films like 'World to Come' (2015) employ poetic montage and fragmented narratives to explore spiritual disenchantment. His forthcoming feature 'Degree of Difficulty' investigates academic intellectual life within university settings.
