Cecilia Parsberg is a Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts and Pedagogy at Karlstad University's Department of Artistic Studies, within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Her work integrates artistic practice with critical inquiry into social, political, and existential themes. She holds a PhD in Fine Arts from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts (Lund University) and has conducted postdoctoral research on wealth inequality and art's societal role, supported by institutions like the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and Kulturbryggan.
Education includes a PhD (2016) on 'How do you become a successful beggar in Sweden?', a research supervision course (2020), and pedagogical training at Gothenburg and Skövde Universities. She has taught at multiple institutions, including Göteborg University and the Stockholm School of Economics, focusing on contemporary performative arts and visual pedagogy.
Her research interests center on participatory performance, public art as social intervention, and the intersections of art with politics, migration, and inequality. Notable projects include A Place in Europe (2017-2021), exploring wealth disparities through public installations, and The Chorus of Begging and Giving, examining urban marginalization through film and panel discussions. She has exhibited internationally, including at Magasin III, SSE, and the Venice Biennale.
Her awards include the TCO Culture Prize (2009) and grants from Wettergrenstiftelsen and the Swedish Research Council. She has served on review panels for the Swedish Research Council and evaluated academic programs at multiple universities. Her work frequently incorporates public dialogue, workshops, and collaborations with activists and politicians to challenge societal norms.
Parsberg's artistic output includes films, installations, and publications, with a focus on marginalized voices and systemic inequities. She has contributed to over 30 exhibitions and conferences since 2000, blending academic research with impactful public engagement.
