Catia Magalhães

Catia Magalhães is an Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, School of Education of Viseu, with a career spanning over a decade in teaching and research. She holds multiple specializations from the University of Lisbon and the Order of Portuguese Psychologists in Clinical, Sports, and Community Psychology, alongside a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Lisbon. Her affiliations include the University of Lisbon Institute of Environmental Health and the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu Center for Studies in Education, Technology and Health.

Magalhães' research focuses on mental health literacy, mindfulness, compassion, and psychological flexibility in adolescents, often intersecting with family-based prevention programs, substance use, and intercultural approaches. Her work frequently addresses COVID-19 pandemic impacts on mental health, child and adolescent well-being, and community prevention strategies.

Scientific awards include a 2017 American Psychological Association Fellowship, a 2014 SPAN Early Career Researcher Bursary, and Jacobs Foundation Fellowships in 2013 and 2011. She has advised numerous Master’s students and contributed to policy-oriented publications, particularly in social education and high-risk youth interventions.
