Cathy Tierney

Cathy Tierney, EdD, RN is an Assistant Professor at the UNMC College of Nursing. She holds a BSN from Midland Lutheran College (1986), MSN from Nebraska Wesleyan University (2005), and EdD from Bryan College of Health Sciences (2021). Her research focuses on integrating self-care practices into nursing education and promoting holistic well-being among faculty and students through mindfulness, hypnosis, and complementary therapies. She currently leads a $75,000 grant (2023-2024) investigating simulation and stress reduction apps in BSN courses to improve academic success.

Dr. Tierney’s work emphasizes building supportive relationships to enhance student retention and success. She has professional experience as a certified hypnotherapist and healing touch practitioner. Her research also explores resilience strategies using multidisciplinary wellness approaches.
