Cathy Thomas

Dr. Cathy Thomas is an Assistant Professor in the English Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She specializes in womanist and black feminist pedagogy, Afrodiasporic Literature, speculative fiction, and science & technology studies. Her research critiques androcentric modernity and antiblack humanism. She holds a PhD in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Before academia, she worked in a genetics lab, a neuropsychiatric center focused on mindfulness, Hollywood, and HIV clinical research. She teaches courses such as Wynter is Coming: A New Sociogeny in 'Undared Forms' and Science Fiction: Speculations in Color.
