Melody Jue

Melody Jue is a Professor in the English Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research spans ocean humanities, science fiction, media theory, and science studies, with a focus on post-1945 American literature and global environmental narratives.

Jue's scholarship examines the intersections of media, ecology, and transnational contexts. Her work includes analyzing seaweeds in trans-Pacific mediations and advancing the field of oceanic media studies through book publications like Wild Blue Media and Informatics of Domination. She has taught courses on science fiction, oceanic forms, and botanical humanities, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach.

Her Wild Blue Media (2020) won the Speculative Fictions and Cultures of Science award. She co-edited Saturation (2021) and Informatics of Domination (2025), contributing to critical dialogues on elemental politics and data-driven ecologies.
