Cathy Berkman is a Professor at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service and serves as Director of the Palliative Care Fellowship, an immersive program for MSW students. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health from Yale University and completed NIMH-funded post-doctoral training at Columbia University.

Her research focuses on palliative/end-of-life care equity, including:
- Cross-cultural differences in treatment preferences and advance care planning
- Discriminatory care experiences among LGBTQ+ patients and partners
- Underrepresentation of persons of color in palliative care
- Family communication and healthcare provider interactions
Recent publications analyze LGBTQ+ healthcare disparities, cultural barriers to hospice access, and transgender palliative care inadequacies. Awards include fellowships from the Gerontological Society of America, New York Academy of Medicine, and Brookdale Center on Aging.
She teaches research methods in the MSW program and statistics/integrative quantitative research in the PhD program. Berkman has led multiple grants from the Borchard Foundation and New York City Department for the Aging, focusing on program evaluations and LGBTQ+ hospice experiences.
