Cathy Allen serves as a Senior Extension Specialist in the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication & Leadership at Oklahoma State University, a position she has held since October 2007. She is a core member of OSU Extension, dedicating her career to statewide 4-H Youth Development programs that build leadership and life skills in Oklahoma youth.
Her academic background includes a Master of Science in General Home Economics from Eastern Illinois University (1992). Allen's professional journey spans multiple land-grant universities, with prior appointments at the University of Illinois and University of Missouri.
Specializing in youth development through agricultural contexts, Allen's work focuses on healthy living initiatives including nutrition education and wellness programming. Her signature projects like "4-H Healthy Habits" and "Health Rocks!" integrate hands-on learning with behavioral change strategies to address childhood obesity and promote lifelong healthy choices.
Allen's research translation has secured consistent external funding, primarily through National 4-H Council grants supporting statewide implementation of evidence-based healthy living curricula from 2020 through 2023.
As a lifelong 4-H member since age 8 (Raymond Sparklers 4-H Club in Illinois), she brings deep personal commitment to the Oklahoma 4-H program (https://4h.okstate.edu/), where she develops volunteer training resources and statewide program frameworks that reach over 150,000 youth annually.
