Cathrin Brisken is an Associate Professor in Life Sciences at EPFL, with a secondary appointment at the Institute of Cancer Research London. She leads the Brisken Lab (https://brisken-lab.epfl.ch), focusing on breast cancer mechanisms, endocrine signaling, and precision medicine. Her roles include serving as Dean of the EPFL Doctoral School and co-founding the International Cancer Prevention Institute.
Education: MD and PhD in Biophysics from the University of Göttingen, followed by postdoctoral training at MIT/Whitehead Institute and Harvard Medical School.
Research interests center on hormonal regulation of mammary development and cancer, with breakthroughs in understanding sensor cell roles of estrogen/progesterone receptors. Her lab pioneered clinically relevant patient-derived xenograft models and investigates tumor dormancy, endocrine disruptors, and therapeutic targets in lobular carcinoma.
Advising: Supervised over 15 PhD students (listed in detail in full description). Active in international committees like AACR Women in Cancer Research Council.
