Professor Elgene Lim is an academic clinician scientist and head of breast cancer services at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, and leads the Connie Johnson Breast Cancer Research Laboratory at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. His work bridges laboratory discoveries and clinical trials, focusing on endocrine therapy resistance and novel therapeutic strategies in breast cancer.
- Education: MBBS (University of Melbourne, Australia, 1995), PhD (Walter & Eliza Hall Institute, 2010), FRACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians, 2006).
Research Interests: Elgene’s research centers on overcoming endocrine therapy resistance in breast cancer, with a focus on hormone receptors (estrogen, androgen, progesterone) and preclinical models like patient-derived xenografts. His lab integrates high-throughput technologies and translational approaches to develop personalized treatments.
Grants: Over $10 million in funding from organizations including Cancer Australia, NHMRC, Cancer Council NSW, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Garvan Institute. Key grants include the 2017–2027 NBCF Endowed Chair ($5M) and projects targeting CDK4/6 inhibitors, AR signaling, and p53 reactivation.
