Cathleen Doherty

Cathleen Doherty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Rutgers University. Her research bridges geochemistry and public health, focusing on isotope geochemistry, environmental contaminants, and environmental justice. She received her Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Columbia University, where she studied mantle dynamics and isotope geochemistry.

• Research Interests: Spanning ancient deep-Earth processes to modern environmental contamination, with emphasis on isotope geochemistry, chemical cycling, and biomarkers of heavy metal exposure.
• Teaching: Instructs courses in mineralogy, petrology, environmental geology, and science outreach at Rutgers, Columbia, and Bard College.
• Mentorship: Actively mentors students through programs like RISE, LSAMP, SURF, and FIGS, emphasizing diversity and equity in science.
