Catherine van der List

Catherine van der List serves as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Essex with research affiliate appointments at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) and the Halle Institute for Economic Research.

She completed her doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia, earning her PhD in 2023.

Her research program centers on labor, public, and urban economics, with concentrated investigation into imperfect local labor markets and place-based policy interventions. This work examines how geographic-specific labor market frictions and targeted government actions influence economic outcomes in regional contexts, utilizing empirical methods to evaluate policy efficacy in constrained labor environments.
