Dr. Catherine Zabinski is a Professor in the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences at Montana State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Agriculture and the Institute on Ecosystems. She holds the Women in Science Distinguished Professorship and has received multiple awards, including the AAAS/Subaru Prize for Excellence in Science Books (2022 Long List) and the Anna K. Fridley Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Distinguished Teaching Award (2019).
Education: Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Minnesota (1991), B.A. in Biology from College of St. Benedict (1983).
Research focuses on soil processes in disturbed and restored ecosystems, including nutrient cycling, decomposition, and plant-microbe interactions. Recent work emphasizes sustainable agriculture and extreme environments. Key areas include cover crop impacts, mycorrhizal ecology, and invasive species management in sagebrush steppe.
