Dr. Rebecca Bunn is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Western Washington University's College of the Environment. Her research focuses on plant-soil interactions, particularly mycorrhizal ecology within contexts of invasion ecology, sustainable agriculture, and restoration. She holds a PhD in Land Resources & Environmental Sciences from Montana State University, an MS in Environmental Engineering from University of Colorado, and a BS in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University.
Her investigations examine how mycorrhizal fungi influence nutrient acquisition, plant competition, and ecosystem resilience. Recent publications explore carbon transfer mechanisms in plant-fungal symbioses, invasive species impacts on native ecosystems, and restoration outcomes in grassland habitats. She maintains an active Soil Ecology Lab and teaches courses including Plant and Soil Interactions and Multivariate Methods for Environmental Science.
Dr. Bunn's work combines field experimentation with advanced statistical approaches to address ecological questions. Her research spans diverse environments from prairie ecosystems to thermal-influenced soils in Yellowstone National Park, with recent focus on canopy soil communities in old-growth forests.
