معرفی
Erin Burns is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences at Michigan State University (MSU), within the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources. She focuses on integrated weed management strategies to mitigate herbicide-resistant weeds in cropping systems. Burns holds a B.S. in Biology from the College of Saint Benedict, an M.S. in Plant Sciences from North Dakota State University, and a Ph.D. in Plant Sciences from Montana State University.
Her research emphasizes the biology, ecology, and population dynamics of problematic weeds, with a particular interest in reducing herbicide resistance development. She has contributed to studies on molecular mechanisms of resistance, including proteomic and biochemical analyses, as well as modeling approaches for sustainable weed control. Her work bridges laboratory and field research, addressing practical challenges for farmers and agricultural industries.
Dr. Burns is actively involved in MSU Extension, providing expertise on weed management practices through workshops, webinars, and field tours. She has collaborated on initiatives like the MSU Weed Tour and contributed to the development of cost-effective herbicide programs for corn and soybean crops. Her extension activities highlight a commitment to translating research into actionable strategies for growers.
Her academic contributions include over a decade of peer-reviewed publications on herbicide resistance, weed biology, and biological control methods. She joined MSU in January 2016 and is based in the Plant and Soil Sciences Building, Room A464.
