Commencing her teaching role in 2020, she instructs undergraduate courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, Nutritional Physiology, and Science Communication & Methodology across multiple campus locations including Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, and Orange.
Her educational background encompasses:
- Master of Science Communication (2019) from The Australian National University
- Certificate in Gastronomy (2019) from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition (2017) from Charles Sturt University
- Associate Diploma in Visual and Performing Arts (1995) from the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art
Lockley's research investigates the intersection of nutrition science, hedonic narratives, and public communication, with particular emphasis on rural/regional Australian communities and the role of arts in science education. Her work explores how culinary narratives influence physiological responses to food and examines neurogastronomy's potential in reshaping nutrition communication.
Her publication record from 2019-2021 reveals consistent thematic focus on public engagement with nutrition science, demonstrated through studies in coal-mining communities, narrative analysis of culinary figures like Nigella Lawson, and reviews of functional foods. These works appear in specialized journals including Locale: The Pacific Journal of Regional Food Studies and the Journal of Science Communication, reflecting her commitment to translating complex nutritional concepts for diverse audiences.
Lockley actively extends her science communication beyond academia through social media platforms under the handles 'Scrumptious Science' and 'The Sci-ren', contributing to public discourse in venues such as Australasian Science and Stories in Science. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and health promotion.
