Catherine (Cat) Prueitt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of British Columbia (UBC), affiliated with the Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on Classical Sanskrit philosophies, particularly the intersection of Buddhist and Hindu traditions. She holds a Ph.D. from Emory University.
Her work explores pramāṇa (epistemology) frameworks to examine human experience, emphasizing Dharmakīrti’s apoha theory of concept formation and its evolution in Pratyabhijñā Śaivism. Key themes include intersubjective world construction, agency, and ethical implications of conceptual frameworks.
Recent publications (2024–2017) address agency ethics in Hindu philosophies, apoha theory in Buddhist contexts, and critiques of transparency in epistemology. Her research bridges historical Indian philosophy with contemporary debates in metaphysics and ethics.
Teaching includes undergraduate courses in philosophy, and she presents globally at conferences such as the American Philosophical Association and International Dharmakīrti Conferences. Her office is Buchanan E 378, with 2025W office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
