Catherine Porter

Catherine Porter is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Management School, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). She holds the title of Professor of Economics and specializes in Development Economics, with a focus on social protection, poverty analysis, and human capital development. Her research spans topics such as the impact of conflict on human capital, youth employment dynamics, and mental health outcomes in developing countries.

Dr. Porter leads projects including 'Inequality of opportunity in Peru' (2019–2021) and 'Young Lives at Work' (2019–2020), which investigate labor market transitions and educational equity. She actively collaborates with institutions like the Université de Sherbrooke and the University of Massachusetts Boston, contributing to interdisciplinary research in gender and social justice. As a mentor, she supervises PhD students Utsa Banerjee and Alessandra Hidalgo Arestegui.

Her research interests also extend to post-conflict development, with notable work on intergenerational effects of conflict in Peru. Recent publications explore the mental health repercussions of job loss in Vietnam and the long-term impacts of social programs on cognitive skills. Catherine is part of the Academy for Gender and Social Justice Research in Organisations, further emphasizing her commitment to equity-focused scholarship.
