Professor Catherine Lido holds a Chair in Psychology and Adult Learning at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. She is Associate Director at the Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC), Deputy Director of the PASCAL Observatory, and a former Programme Leader for the MSc Psychological Studies. Her research focuses on educational disadvantage, learning cities, and using big data to address social inequalities in learning. She has led impactful projects like the 'Integrated Multimedia City Data' initiative and contributed to UNESCO's learning cities metrics. Catherine has secured £3.67M+ in research grants, including EPSRC and GCRF funding. She supervises 10+ PhD students and teaches cognitive psychology and adult learning. Her work spans over 38 publications, media engagements, and public policy contributions. She also maintains a private Pilates practice.
Education: PhD in Social Psychology (University of Sussex, 2004).
Grants & Projects: Co-I on £1.15M Gendered Journeys (STEM trajectories), £1.78M UBDC Phase 2, and £760k VisNET (engineering training inclusivity). She led the British Council Impact Study in Scotland (2018) and the Eat Well Age Well partnership with Food Train.
Teaching & Supervision: Supervises research on gender stereotypes in STEM, food security in aging populations, and cross-cultural campus climate studies. Taught at the University of West London (2004–2014) and delivers guest lectures globally.
Engagement: BBC media contributor, ESRC Festival speaker, and author of 2019 The Psychologist cover feature. Active in policy advising for the Scottish Government and UNESCO.
