Dr. Catherine Haase is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Austin Peay State University and Principal Investigator at the university's Center of Excellence for Field Biology. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Interdisciplinary Ecology from the University of Florida (2016), MS in Conservation Biology from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (2010), and BS in Wildlife Biology from Unity College (2007). She previously conducted post-doctoral research at Montana State University.
Her research integrates thermal biology, ecophysiology, and disease dynamics to understand mammalian responses to environmental change. Key focus areas include:
- Hibernation energetics and disease susceptibility in bats
- Thermal refuge use in marine mammals
- Landscape-scale conservation modeling
- Climate-disease interactions
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on conservation physiology, with recent work emphasizing:
- White-nose syndrome impacts on bat populations
- Bioenergetic modeling of hibernation
- Thermal refuge ecology
- Computational tools for ecological forecasting
Honors include the Christine Stevens Wildlife Research Award (2023). She currently advises seven graduate students and oversees the Haase Lab, which maintains a 10-year bat monitoring partnership with Fort Campbell.
