Catherine Cowie is a Research Fellow at the University of York conducting interdisciplinary research to address landscape-scale environmental management challenges through integrated ecological and social science approaches.
Her academic qualifications include:
- PhD in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management, Department of Environment and Geography, University of York
- MRes (distinction) in Ecology and Environmental Management, Biology Department, University of York
- BSc in Ecology, Conservation and the Environment, Biology Department, University of York
Research focuses on Environmental Management and Natural Capital Assessment with expertise in policy frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and financing mechanisms. Current work examines deer impacts on carbon storage (Forestry Commission), natural capital metrics (Natural England), and catchment-scale flood management solutions through the Defra-funded Ousewem project (2022-2027) across Yorkshire river systems.
Grant funding includes major collaborations with Natural England, Forestry Commission, and Defra's Flood and Coastal Innovation Programme, emphasizing community engagement in the Swale, Ure, Nidd, and Ouse catchments.
