Catherine A. Admay is a Senior Lecturer in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University since 2020, concurrently serving as Assistant Director of Graduate Studies (2023–Present). She holds affiliations with the Duke Global Health Institute (2008–Present), Duke Science & Society (2020–Present), and the Duke Center for International Development (2023–Present). Her expertise spans global health policy, human rights law, and international development, with a focus on equitable healthcare access and ethical governance.
Admay earned a JD from Yale Law School (1992) and a BA from Yale College (1988, magna cum laude). She previously taught at NYU Law School and Duke Law School, and co-founded NYU’s first international law clinic focused on Eritrea and civil society advocacy. Her teaching includes courses on strategic storytelling, ethics in policy-making, and human rights and conflict resolution.
Her research explores global health disparities and human rights frameworks, as evidenced by her 2016 publication on TB treatment policies. She has received multiple teaching awards, including the Judith Deckers Teaching Award (2025), Susan Tifft Award (2017), and Richard A. Stubbing Mentorship Award (2018). Notable grants include the Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation-funded project on justice and human culture (2009–2010) and a Duke Office for Faculty Advancement seed grant on inclusive group work (2022).
Admay leads Bass Connections projects on biocultural sustainability in Madagascar and actively engages in outreach initiatives, such as interfaith vigils and climate sustainability integration in Duke courses.
