Catharine Jawahar

Catharine Jawahar is a Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Adelaide's Adelaide Medical School. She coordinates undergraduate courses in Biological Psychiatry and researches biological mechanisms linking psychosocial stress to psychiatric disorders. Her work examines how early life stressors program neurodevelopment for later-life psychopathology.

Research utilizes animal models of psychiatric endophenotypes and clinical cohorts to investigate stress-induced epigenetic changes, neuroendocrine-immune interactions, and gene-environment interplay in depression and psychosis. Current projects analyze DNA methylation patterns associated with childhood trauma exposure in adult depression.
