Catarina Valdigem

Catarina Valdigem is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Catholic University of Portugal, and a researcher at the Research Centre for Communication and Culture (CECC). She holds a PhD in Media and Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London (2016). Her research focuses on colonial broadcasting, media history in Africa, and the intersection of sound, identity, and colonial legacies.

Research Interests: Catarina explores post-colonial studies, colonial broadcasting practices in Angola and Mozambique, and the cultural reception of media in colonial contexts. She examines how radio and soundscapes shaped identity formation among Goan communities and postcolonial diasporas. Her work also addresses censorship in colonial media systems and the role of media in constructing national and ethnic identities.
