Orquídea Moreira Ribeiro

Orquídea Moreira Ribeiro is a Full Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), affiliated with the School of Human and Social Sciences and the Department of Letters, Arts and Communication. She has held academic positions at UTAD since 1992, advancing from Associate Professor to Full Professor. Her educational background includes a Habilitation in Cultural Sciences (2020) and a PhD in Human and Social Sciences focused on Zora Neale Hurston's work (1999-2006).

Ribeiro's research explores postcolonial African cultures in Lusophone contexts, digital cultural heritage, and urban cultural dynamics. Her work intersects African studies, postcolonial theory, and cultural preservation, with particular emphasis on Angola and Mozambique. She examines cultural resistance, linguistic hybridity, and the impact of colonialism through literature, media, and urban landscapes.

Her recent publications (2022-2024) demonstrate strong thematic coherence around postcolonial memory, resistance narratives, and cultural representation in Lusophone Africa. Ribeiro has secured significant research funding including the Erasmus+ project S.I.L.V.HER - Safeguarding Intangible and culturaL Values and HERitage (2018-2020).
