Cassy Dorff is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University and a teaching faculty member in the Data Science Institute's master’s program. She holds affiliations with the LGBTQ Policy Lab and the Center for Research on Inequality and Health. Dorff earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University (2015), an M.A. from Duke (2013), and a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas (2010). Her research focuses on political violence, conflict dynamics, social networks, and computational methods, with notable work on Mexico's criminal conflict and media safety in violent contexts.
Her research has been recognized with awards including the Political Ties Award (2022) and inclusion in the Library of Congress's Handbook of Latin American Studies (2017). She has secured over $700,000 in NSF funding for collaborative conflict research and has mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students. Dorff also develops R packages for network analysis (e.g., 'netify', 'depTest') and actively participates in academic service roles, including co-directing the Online Peace Science Colloquium.
Her publications span journals like Comparative Political Studies, British Journal of Political Science, and International Studies Quarterly. Beyond academia, Dorff is a certified naturalist, poet, and enthusiast of horses and birds, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections in her work.
