Her academic background includes a PhD in Canadian Studies from Trent University with a focus on Gender and Women’s Studies and Social Policy, and she has been engaged with FIFSW since completing her doctorate in 2012.
Her research centers on gender equity, violence against women, poverty, anti-oppressive practice, and the impact of neoliberalism on marginalized populations and the non-profit sector. She is particularly interested in community engagement, social justice, and the integration of mindfulness into social work practice.
Dr. Ready has authored the influential book Shelter in a Storm: Revitalizing Feminism in Neoliberal Ontario (2016), which explores feminist resilience and activism in times of austerity. The publication reflects her broader interest in feminist theory, community-based organizing, and critical social policy analysis.
Throughout her career, she has bridged academic and practice domains, having served as Executive Director of three non-profit organizations and worked extensively with United Way, Social Planning Councils, and government agencies. Her professional experience enriches her teaching and research, particularly in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Dr. Ready is also trained in Integrative Yoga Therapy and actively promotes mindfulness as a tool for well-being among social workers facing systemic stress in neoliberal environments. This holistic approach underscores her commitment to sustainable, compassionate social work practice.
