Cas Mudde serves as the Stanley Wade Shelton UGAF Professor of International Affairs and Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), within the Department of International Affairs. His academic career spans multiple continents, with prior tenure-track positions at Central European University (Hungary), University of Edinburgh (UK), and University of Antwerp (Belgium), alongside temporary appointments at University of Oregon, University of Notre Dame, and DePauw University.
Education: Mudde earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from Leiden University in the Netherlands under the supervision of the late Peter Mair.
His research spans Political Science with concentrated expertise in International Relations, Comparative Politics, European Politics, Populism, and Political Extremism. He critically examines the rise of populist and extremist movements within democratic systems, with particular focus on European political landscapes and their global implications.
