Prof. Carsten de Dreu is a Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology at Leiden University, renowned for his pioneering research on conflict, cooperation, and group dynamics. His work integrates psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics, with landmark studies on oxytocin's dual role in fostering in-group cooperation and intergroup aggression. He received the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant (€2.5M) to investigate climate change impacts on social conflicts. De Dreu has over 250 publications and has mentored numerous PhD students, five of whom became professors.
His research explores motivational factors in decision-making, neural mechanisms of social behavior, and adaptive responses to environmental stressors like economic crises and climate change. De Dreu's work is globally influential, extending to primate and avian studies, and he actively disseminates findings through public lectures and interdisciplinary collaborations.
