Carrie Anne Furman is a Part-Time Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Crop & Soil Sciences at the University of Georgia, affiliated with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). Her research focuses on climate adaptation strategies, sustainable food systems, and stakeholder engagement in agricultural communities. Dr. Furman leads a USDA SARE-funded project examining food hubs' impact on rural development and farmer quality of life.
Her work integrates ethnographic methods, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to study producer experiences and community relationships. She has contributed to journals such as Climatic Change, Agriculture and Human Values, and Climate Risk Management.
Dr. Furman’s projects include USDA NIFA, RMA, and NOAA SARP grants, focusing on climate decision tools for farmers and organic producers. She emphasizes participatory research with stakeholders like extension agents and African American farmers.
