Carolyn Stephens

Carolyn Stephens is a Full Professor of Environmental Ethics at the University of Primorska, Slovenia, and a Visiting Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK. She holds Honorary Professorships at UCL Bartlett Development Planning Unit and UCL Institute of Health Equity. Her research focuses on equity, environmental health, and ethics, with a global emphasis on disadvantaged communities. Stephens has advised UN agencies like WHO and UNEP and supports international NGOs. She chairs the EU Horizons Ethics Advisory Board (BEPREP) and serves on editorial boards of journals such as Environmental Research Letters.

• Education: BA English Literature (Cambridge), MSc in Environmental Health (LSHTM/LSE), PhD in Environmental Epidemiology (University of London).
• Teaching: Leads modules on Ethics, Public Health, and Urban Health at LSHTM and UCL. Supports PhD programs in Iran, Brazil, and Argentina.

Research interests span climate change impacts, social justice in health, and biodiversity recovery. Notable work includes studies on heatwaves, urban health in low-income settings, and indigenous health policy. Awards include the Royal Society Kohn Award and the Mayor of London Academic Excellence Award.
