Carolyn Nadeau, the Byron S. Tucci Professor of Spanish at Illinois Wesleyan University, specializes in Medieval and Early Modern Spanish Literature with a focus on Culinary History and Cultural Representation. Her research bridges literary analysis with gastronomy, examining how food shapes identity in Cervantes' works and beyond.

Research Interests center on Food Representation in early modern texts, including cookbooks, theatrical works, and religious treatises. She explores how culinary practices reflect societal norms, gender roles, and transatlantic exchanges, particularly in Cervantes' Don Quixote and Martínez Montiño’s 1611 Arte de cocina.
Recent Publications include a critical edition of the 1611 Arte de cocina (2023), monographs on Don Quixote’s diet (2016), and chapters addressing Transatlantic Food Exchange, Sensory Ailments, and Golden Age Culinary Imagery.
