Carolyn Hoyle is a Professor of Criminology at the University of Oxford Centre for Criminology and a member of Green Templeton College. Since 1991, she has contributed extensively to empirical and theoretical research on criminological topics including domestic violence, policing, restorative justice, the death penalty, and wrongful convictions. She served as Centre Director from 2012 to 2017 and currently directs the Death Penalty Research Unit.

- Projects: Research on deterrence and the death penalty for drugs in Indonesia, mapping death row in Southeast Asia, abolitionist de facto states in Africa/Caribbean, and ongoing collaborations with The Death Penalty Project in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Taiwan.
- Publications: Authored/edited works such as Reasons to Doubt: Wrongful Convictions and the Criminal Cases Review Commission (OUP, 2019), The Death Penalty: A Worldwide Perspective (OUP, 2008), and numerous journal articles.
- Current Work: Analyzing intersections of migration, discrimination, and capital punishment, and evaluating restorative justice practices globally.
