معرفی
Caroline Tokarski is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Bordeaux, where she leads the Protéome platform and co-directs the international CNRS laboratory ARCHE with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She is a corresponding member of the Institut universitaire de France and the Académie nationale de pharmacie, and serves on the CNRS national committee.
Her research focuses on the structural characterization of bio-macromolecules—proteins, lipids, and polysaccharides—using mass spectrometry, with applications in chemistry, health, industry, and particularly cultural heritage. She pioneers methods for analyzing artworks and archaeological materials to uncover historical formulations, degradation processes, and ancient human practices.
Her recent publications highlight trends in heritage science, including the identification of plant gums and proteins in historic artworks, proteomic analysis of archaeological remains, and the application of advanced analytical techniques to art conservation. These works span disciplines such as analytical chemistry, biochemistry, archaeology, and material science, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach.
She has received scientific recognition through awards from the Société Chimique de France and the American Chemical Society.
Caroline Tokarski actively contributes to public and academic discourse on the role of science in museums, art authentication, and conservation. Her work is supported by CNRS and has significant implications for both scientific research and cultural preservation.
She is involved in collaborative research initiatives and leads a laboratory focused on proteomics applied to heritage science, fostering innovation in the analysis of ancient organic materials.
