Caroline Moraes is Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at the Department of Marketing, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. She serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Responsible Business and Director of Research for her department, demonstrating strong leadership in both research and academic governance.
Her research focuses on ethics, sustainability, and responsibility in consumer practices, markets, and marketing. Key areas include ethical and sustainable consumption, consumer vulnerability, food insecurity, community consumption, craft marketing, and anti-consumption phenomena. She employs qualitative methodologies and draws on theories of practice, power, liminality, and ethics to explore how societal challenges like poverty and austerity shape consumer behavior.
Caroline’s recent publications span high-impact journals and book publications, addressing topics such as the temporal rhythms of anti-consumption, paraliminal experiences of food insecurity, and institutional efforts toward responsible business. Her work is interdisciplinary, bridging marketing, sociology, and public policy.
She has received research funding from the British Academy, ESRC, Academy of Marketing, and charitable organizations, and contributes to academic service through editorial roles and peer review for journals and funders.
