Dr Caroline Henckels is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at Monash University. Her research focuses on public international law (particularly international economic law) and public law, with significant contributions to understanding investment treaty exceptions, regulatory autonomy, and proportionality in arbitration. She has published in leading journals including the European Journal of International Law and the Journal of International Economic Law, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Economic Law.

Her recent work examines geographical indications in wine trade (with M Davison and L Spagnolo) and security exceptions in investment treaties. Caroline is a member of the UNCITRAL Working Group III Academic Forum and serves on the Society of International Economic Law Executive Council. Her 2015 monograph on Proportionality and Deference in Investor-State Arbitration (Cambridge University Press) has been cited in multiple international cases.
