Caroline Caron serves as an Assistant Professor in Communication at the Department of Social Sciences, University of Quebec in Outaouais, where she conducts research on media, gender, and youth.
Her academic journey:
- PhD in Communication Studies, Concordia University: Thesis examined Québec teenage girls' reactions to "sexy fashion" controversies and institutional impacts on school dress codes.
- Master's thesis on feminine teen press, awarded two research prizes.
- Post-doctoral research at University of Ottawa's Institute of Women’s Studies on young women's political engagement.
Caroline's research interests center on Media Studies and Gender Studies, particularly the social construction of reality through media in youth-related social problems. She investigates Youth Studies, Political Engagement of Women, and the societal implications of Fashion. Her interdisciplinary work bridges communication, sociology, and gender studies to address contemporary social issues.
She is the recipient of the Trudeau Foundation Scholarship (2005), which facilitated international academic exchanges and professional development. Her master's thesis also earned two unspecified research awards.
Funded by FQRSC, SSHRC, and the Trudeau Foundation, her research explores media's role in defining social problems. Caroline actively contributes to community organizations as a volunteer and consultant, and chairs the Board of Directors for the Women, Politics and Democracy Group, demonstrating her commitment to social engagement beyond academia.
