Dr. Caroline Temcheff is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (ECP) at McGill University, directing the Healthy Development Lab. Her research focuses on developmental trajectories linking childhood conduct problems to mental health outcomes (depression, addictions) and medical service utilization across childhood to early adulthood. She holds a Quebec Research Scholar award (FRQS).
- Educations:
- B.Sc. Honours in Psychology, McGill University
- M.A. Clinical Psychology, Concordia University
- Ph.D. Clinical Psychology, Concordia University
Her work identifies risk/protective factors for medical service use and comorbidities, emphasizing gender-sensitive prevention strategies. Recent studies examine pathways to addiction, suicide risk differentiation via childhood problem types, and service utilization disparities. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles span longitudinal methodologies, including trajectories of substance use, peer victimization effects, and LGBTQ+ mental health.
Key findings highlight higher medical costs among youth with conduct problems and gender differences in problem expression. She collaborates with Quebec health systems to translate research into preventive interventions targeting critical developmental periods.
Grants and awards include sustained FRQS funding. Supervising graduate students in 2024-25, her lab addresses emerging issues like sexting correlates and stigma in service utilization through mixed-methods approaches.
