Dr Caroline Burt is a College Lecturer at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on medieval governance, particularly the reigns of Edward I and Edward II (1272–1327). She examines how royal authority was conceptualized and implemented across England, with a special interest in legal systems, monarchical policies, and feudal relationships.
Her key publications include Edward I and the Governance of England, 1272–1307 (2012) and articles analyzing Edward II’s governance and the Trailbaston commissions. She secured Newton Trust funding (2015–16) for her upcoming book Arise England: Six Kings and the Making of the English State, 1199–1399, due in 2023–24.
Her work trends toward interdisciplinary analysis of medieval political structures, blending legal, administrative, and aristocratic dynamics. Grants include Newton Trust support for historical research. She is affiliated with the Faculty of History and Pembroke College.
