Caroline Bulsara

Associate Professor Caroline Bulsara is a research academic at the University of Notre Dame Australia, affiliated with the School of Nursing & Midwifery at the Fremantle Campus. With over 25 years of experience in health and primary care research, she is a leading expert in qualitative and mixed methods methodologies, focusing on dementia, residential aged care, and psycho-oncology. She has secured over $8 million in research grants and has published more than 130 papers.

Her research interests are deeply interdisciplinary, emphasizing patient-centered care, empowerment, and health service improvement. Key areas include dementia care, chronic pain management, adolescent wellbeing through outdoor education, and palliative cancer care. She is particularly skilled in community participatory research and survey evaluative designs.

Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in both clinical gerontology and psychosocial health, with studies on frailty in hospitalized cancer patients, cannabinoid use in dementia, and the impact of outdoor adventure programs on adolescent mental health. These works demonstrate a consistent commitment to improving quality of life across diverse patient populations.

Caroline Bulsara has supervised 27 HDR students to completion since 2012 and continues to mentor current students across health disciplines. She is actively involved in grant-funded research and provides expert training in qualitative research and QSR NVivo. Her work is supported by affiliations with the International Psycho-Oncology Society, WA GP Based Research Network, and the Solaris Cancer Care Clinical Governance group.

She leads and contributes to multidisciplinary research teams focused on aging, cancer care, and mental wellbeing, often collaborating with clinicians, GPs, and community organizations to ensure translational impact.
