Dr. Caroline Authaler is a Researcher at the University of Bielefeld, affiliated with the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology and Department of History. She leads the research area "History as a Profession/Professional History" and contributes to the university's strategic profile areas on Cultures of History and Global History.
Her research interests focus on Colonial history, Transregional history, and Migration history, with a particular emphasis on Cultures of remembrance. Her work examines historical entanglements between Germany and Africa, especially in the context of German plantations in British Cameroon (1925–1939) and postcolonial memory practices.
Dr. Authaler's publications analyze colonial economic structures, transnational historical debates, and post-WWI legal transitions. She has received recognition for her work, including a 2023 nomination for the Karl Peter Grotemeyer Prize and the 2021 Zukunftspreis for her project #Meinwanderungsland. Her memberships include the VHD (Association of Historians in Germany) and AFAAC (Association of Friends of Antiquities and Archives in Cameroon).
