Carole Parsons is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Queen's University Belfast, within the School of Pharmacy Material and Advanced Technologies for Healthcare. She holds a First Class Honours degree in Pharmacy (2002) and a PhD in Pharmaceutics focused on biomaterials and drug delivery (2006). Her academic roles include Examinations Liaison Officer for the MPharm program, teaching responsibilities across multiple levels, and editorial board memberships with BMC journals.
Her research focuses on optimizing medication use in palliative and end-of-life care, particularly for patients with advanced dementia. Key projects include developing pain assessment interventions for dementia patients and evaluating deprescribing practices in hospice settings. She has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and led projects funded by institutions like the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network.
Carole has received awards including Best Poster prizes at international conferences and the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2009). She collaborates internationally on dementia care initiatives and contributes to policy groups such as the Northern Ireland Palliative Care Research Forum. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programs in pharmacy and nursing, emphasizing practical skills and research methods.
