Dr. Carole Edwards is a Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Texas Tech University's Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures department. She serves as Convener of the French section and holds a doctorate from Purdue University with an emphasis on Francophone Studies. Her research focuses on North African, Sub-Saharan, and Caribbean Francophone literature, with notable publications including monographs on Francophone women dramatists and Laurent Gaudé's works. She is a Fulbright alumnus to Morocco and currently explores literary postures in North African authors like Mohamed Nedali. Teaching spans undergraduate courses in French grammar, business French, and literature surveys, as well as graduate-level postcolonial theory and translation studies.
Key contributions include Les dramaturges antillaises (2008), analyzing West Indian identity through drama; Le sacrifice dans les littératures francophones (2014), exploring sacrifice as a thematic motif; and a 2021 monograph on Laurent Gaudé's transnational narratives. She co-authored The ABCs of French Culture, a guide to navigating French societal norms.
Her work bridges postcolonial theory, cultural studies, and literary analysis, emphasizing marginalized voices and transnational narratives. Awards include the Fulbright Program distinction, and she actively publishes in journals like Nouvelles Études Francophones and The French Review.
