Carole Clair is a Full Professor of outpatient general internal medicine at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne (UNIL), a position she has held since October 1, 2024. She is also the head of the Department of Polyclinics (DDP) at Unisanté and an assistant physician there. Her academic and clinical work is deeply integrated with public health and gender research.
Her research interests focus on the metabolic consequences of smoking and smoking cessation, particularly their link to type 2 diabetes, and on the influence of sex and gender in clinical medicine and epidemiology. She has led national efforts to integrate gender perspectives into medical research and education.
Her recent publications reflect a strong commitment to gender equity in health, addressing topics such as women's and men's health, gender-sensitive care, and the integration of gender in medical curricula. These works span disciplines including public health, clinical medicine, and medical education, with recurring themes of equity, prevention, and policy.

Carole Clair has played a key role in mentoring and institutional leadership, particularly in advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion in academic medicine. She chaired the Medicine and Gender Commission of the FBM School of Medicine and co-chaired the EDI Commission at UNIL. She has also secured and led major research grants through the Swiss National Science Foundation, notably NRP 83, which aims to create an evidence base for integrating sex and gender in health research and policy.
She leads the Health and Gender Unit at Unisanté and is actively involved in national and international initiatives to improve health outcomes through gender-sensitive approaches.
