Zaru specializes in integrating Arabic language dialects into Modern Standard Arabic curricula. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes cultural understanding and community-building, as evidenced by her courses in basic to advanced Arabic and colloquial dialects. She combines language instruction with broader education about Arab world diversity.
She previously worked as an Arabic medical interpreter at Johns Hopkins Hospital (2013-2018), which informed her pedagogical approach. Her narrative highlights a commitment to combating cultural ignorance through education, particularly following the 9/11 attacks and the second Intifada in Palestine.
