Carol Shoulders

Professor Carol Shoulders is a Professor of Lipidology at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the William Harvey Research Institute and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds a DPhil from Oxford University and has contributed extensively to lipid biology research. Her work focuses on lipid homeostasis, cholesterol metabolism, and immuno-metabolic diseases. She leads the TRIBBLES Research and Innovation Network (TRAIN) and chairs the BSc Pharmacology Module. She has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Lipid Research for 13 years.

Education: Open University (1980), DPhil in Molecular Biology from Oxford University (1983).
Research Interests: Genetic factors in lipid disorders, cellular processes of cholesterol synthesis, COPII vesicle transport mechanisms, and Tribbles 1 pseudokinase functions in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Grants include EU-funded TRAIN. Collaborations involve Professor Endre Kiss-Toth (Sheffield University) and others in Europe. Her lab uses high-throughput sequencing, cell models, and computational biology. She advises two PhD students and participates in the Heart-UK Research Board.
