Carmen Taleghani-Nikazm

Carmen Taleghani-Nikazm is a Professor and Chair of Germanic Languages and Literatures at The Ohio State University (OSU), within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in German Applied Linguistics and Linguistics. Her research focuses on language use in social interaction, particularly in second language (L2) contexts, leveraging methods from Conversation Analysis and Interactional Linguistics. She examines how speakers formulate utterances to achieve social actions, with comparative studies in German, Persian, and multilingual settings.

Her academic roles include Department Chair, member of the Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Second Language Studies, and extensive service on university committees.
